Just a quick note to thank everyone who auditioned yesterday. I know it’s tough to put yourself out there (character building), so a sincere thank you to everyone. That’s the horrible bit over and now we can get down to having some proper fun. Thanks also to the panel, Oliver, Sinead and Carmel.
The following roles have been cast:
Gertrude: Orla Walsh
Horton: Martin McNelis
The Cat: Aidan Fox
Mazie: Claire McNelis
Sour Kangaroo: Denise Broderick
Mrs Mayor: Ann Marie Barrett-Fox
Jojo: Tom Barrett
Bird Girls: Karen Barrett, Karen Dunne & Joanne O Sullivan
There are still other roles still to be cast… including Mr Mayor, Wickersham & General Schmitz. These will be filled over the coming weeks.
General Schmitz is now also open to ladies (think of a battleaxe, whacky and weird like yer wan in the Matilda movie), so if you are interested please let me know and we will schedule an audition for the 2nd October at 7:00 (… the next time Oliver is down with us)
Regards

It’s hard to believe that almost 5 years have passed since we had our last ‘Big Birthday’ bash – for our Silver Jubilee. Ah yes, its probably all coming back now…. the fun, the Craic, the dancing till well into the early hours and the very late night/early morning bar in Fitzpatricks Shamrock Hotel – not to mention the hangovers the next day.
Well – get the tux out of the moth balls – book the hair dresser and the beautician, because - it’s about the happen again!!!
To celebrate 30 years of bringing musicals to the people of Shannon and the surrounding areas, we are going to try to replicate that night [or improve on it – if possible] with a ‘GALA ANNIVERSARY BALL’ in November.
Auditions will take place for Seussical at K9 on Sunday 23rd at 14:00. Audition pieces are available by emailing
, or alternatively can be collected at Rehearsals, which commence on Wednesday 19th at K9.
The launch night for the coming year has been organised for Wednesday 5th September in Murphy Browns at 8 o' clock. Please come along if you can. Our junior members are allowed to attend but they have to leave the premises by ten o' clock. The Launch night will be a great chance for people to catch up and to get back into rehearsal mode.
As you know at this stage, our 2008 production will be Seussical the Musical. Some of you may already have a taste of what's to come after seeing Eclipse doing Seussical Junior in May of this year. Seussical is a family orientated, funfilled and colourful musical following the tales of the Cat in the Hat as written by Doctor Suess. It is a musical essentially about the power of imagination and belief in yourself with the cat in the hat acting as emcee. A number of story lines are to be seen unfold in this musical. We see Horton the Elephant rescue the citizens of Who, 'the tiniest planet in the sky', even though his fellow jungle of Nool residents think he's crazy. We are introduced to JoJo, a young boy living in Whoville whose imagination has gotten him into trouble with his parents and got him suspended from school so his parents send him off to boarding school. Gertrude McFuzz is a bird who is secretly in love with Horton but is worried he won't notice her with her plain one feather tail, Mayzie La Bird and her Bird Girls arrive on the scene to remedy the situation. These are only some of the characters to be met in this fun musical. These classic and colourful tales are seamlessly brought together by JoJo, the young boy 'and thinker of strange and wonderful thinks.'
