2007 - Children of Eden

 

This new show by the writer of Godspell and Wicked was a huge hit with Shannon Audiences.  The cast was split into two seperate casts, with Denise Broderick and Chris Willetts leading the first act as Adam and Eve, while Martin McNElis and Andrea Doolan played Noah and Mama Noah in Act two.  Bridging both acts was Ronan O'Brien in the role of Father.  New faces included Gari Deegan and Stephen Colcannon (who went on to appear in BBCs "Any Dream Will Do" and Lauren Dunne as Yonah.

2006 - The Wiz


 

In 2006, with a new director, Oliver Hurley on board, Shannon tackled the upbeat spectacle of "The Wiz".  With Denise Broderick in the role of Dorothy, Aódan Fox, Chris Willetts and Martin McNelis took the roles of Scarecrow, Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion.  The ensemble was filled out by Joanne Meehan, Clare McNelis, Nicky Doherty as the witches and Derek Barrett as "The Wiz"

2005 - Guys and Dolls


 

In 2005, for the first time ever, Shannon Musical society repeated a show that had been performed by the society before. Damon Runyons classic characters were brought to life in this Frank Loesser musical.

Sky Masterson and his Mission Doll, Sarah Brown, were played by Martin McNelis and Sinéad O'Sullivan. Aodan Fox and Denise Broderick were the eternally engaged Nathan and Adelaide. A strong supporting cast included Cathy Hurley and Richard Stapleton, both of whom had roles in the original production.

2004 - Little Shop of Horrors


This tale of a Man-Eating plant terrorising a young florists assistant was a huge success in Shannon.

The Plant, Audrey II was a giant puppet hired from England. Seymour Krelbourn, the mild mannered florists assistant was played by Eoin Sheedy, a role for which he recieved a "Best Actor" nomination. His love interest, Audrey was played by Sinéad O'Sullivan. The plant was created with the vocal chords of Martin McNelis and the phisical puppetry of Tony Little (and Martin Gough on Arms!). Gary Loughnane played Mr. Mushnik and Derek Barrett played multiple roles, most notably the Sadistic Dentist Orin Scrivello.

2003 - Singin' in the Rain

Based on the hugely popular movie of the same name, this production was equally popular with our audiences.

Feidhlim Hillery and Clare McNelis were the love interest of Don and Kathy while Aodan Fox and Kathleen Browne provided the laughs as Cosmo and Lena.

Brian Henry stepped in at the last minute for an excellent R.F. Simpson and Martin McNelis was his sycophantic sidekick Dexter.

2002 - Crazy for You


Crazy for You was performed in February 2002 with Feidhlim Hillery and Edel Heaney in the lead roles. The show is a dance spectacular with very strong comedy moments and a toe-tapping Gershwin score.

Highlights included the mirror scene between Zangler and Bobby, the Les Mis inspired "Stiff Upper Lip" number and the Act One Finale of "I've Got Rhythm".

2001 - Godspell

"Godspell" by Stephen Schwartz is a vibrant retelling of the Gospel according to St. Matthew in song and dance.

Feidhlim Hillery played "Stephen", the Christ figure and was supported by great ensemble playing from the rest of the Cast. This show had some great singing and acting debuts from within the cast.

2000 - The Hot Mikado

The Hot Mikado is a reworking of The Mikado with a swing feel and stylised Zoot Suits.

Aodan Fox had an award winning performance as KoKo, The Lord High Executioner.

Edel Heaney and Aidan O'Gara were the star-crossed lovers and Feidhlim Hillery played his first role in Shannon as Pooh-Bah, the Personality switching Lord High Everything Else.

1999 - The Sound of Music

The Sound of Music must be the best known musical in the world and it certainly went down well in Shannon.

Edel Heaney and Malachy Darcy(R.I.P.) were the Novice and the Captain in this production. Edel Halliday and Gus Barrett were their support and a talented group of local children promptly stole the show every night to packed houses.

1998 - Me and My Girl

The classic Rags to Riches story with a twist, Me and My Girl was a hugely popular show with our audiences. Songs like "Leaning on a Lampost" and "Doing the Lambeth Walk" had them tapping their toes along with the cast in this great dance show.

Aódan Fox took the lead once more as the cockney Bill Snibson, flanked by the lovely Sally played by Gráinne Hartnett. Brian Henry, Edel Halliday, Gus Barrett, Gary Loughnane and Aoife McKenna filled the ensemble.

1979 - Oklahoma

Starring Gus Barrett as "Curly" and Brid Hartnett as "Laurie", the first Shannon Musical was a huge event in the town. A production of this scale and professionalism had been unheard of in the town prior to Oklahoma.

Jimmy Collclough directed the show, which unusually did not begin with the famous "Oh what a beautiful morning" but rather with the Oklahoma Chorus.

Aunt Eller was played by Ursula Meehan, who is still an active member of the society and has been involved in every show since the first. Aoife McKenna played the ditzy Ado Annie and Malachy Darcy (R.I.P.) had an award winning performance as Jud Fry.
